How to Build Personal Branding On LinkedIn

(Without Being Cringe 😬)

Are you really being seen on LinkedIn? It is a well-known fact that many professionals struggle to get noticed not because they lack skills, but because their profiles and posts aren’t reaching the right people.

The truth is, visibility comes from targeting the right audience and posting with a purpose , not this..
Why Does This Matter and Why You Should Care ?
You’re good at what you do for years… But on LinkedIn, you’re quiet. You scroll, you like other people’s promotions, maybe share a post once a year… and that’s it.

Maybe your company doesn’t encourage being active on LinkedIn.

Maybe you think LinkedIn is only for people job hunting or trying to be influencers.

Maybe you simply don’t want to post selfies and motivational quotes.

You’re not alone, so many of us are the same.
But here’s the reality: being visible today protects your career tomorrow.
Because:
Recruiters and hiring managers don’t wait for CVs , they search for people.
Opportunities (promotions, speaking gigs, consulting, leadership roles) go to people who are seen — not just the most qualified.
LinkedIn is your Google search result. Before someone trusts you, schedules a meeting, or refers to you, they check your profile.

So yes,  you can be brilliant at your job and still be professionally invisible.

Let’s change that. Without being cringe. Without “rise and grind” quotes. Without pretending to be an influencer.
This guide is for you if you want to:
Be known for your expertise, not just your job title
Be a thoughtful leader in your expertise area
Attract opportunities (not chase them)
Build a personal brand without being cringe or salesy
Make LinkedIn work for you — even when you're offline
Let’s look at your LinkedIn together. Think of it less like a CV and more like your personal homepage.
Your profile should answer three questions in 10 seconds:
Who are you?
What do you do?
Why should someone care?
a. Fix Your Headline First (Most Important for Visibility + SEO)
Most people write: “Sales Manager at Company Name.”  That tells people nothing about your skills or value.
Use this formula instead: Role + What you solve + Industry/Value
Example: “B2B Marketing Strategist | SaaS Growth & Demand Gen | Turning Leads into Revenue / Fintech”
b. About Section — Speak Like a Human, Not a Resume
Structure to follow:
There’s a simple structure you can follow to make your About section sound genuine, relatable, and memorable . It helps people actually connect with who you are, not just what you’ve done.
c. Experience Section — No More ‘Responsible For…’
Turn tasks → outcomes. It’s not your CV. Do not directly copy and paste things from your CV.
❌ “Responsible for managing client relationships.”
✅ “Managed 20+ enterprise clients in EMEA, UK and North America, improved retention rate from 78% to 91% in 12 months.”
d. Boost your discoverability by treating skills as keywords
The LinkedIn Recruiter tool enables hiring managers to search using keywords. Below is a checklist to help you identify which sections need to be completed.
Example: keywords for someone in Growth Marketing: “Growth Strategy, B2B SaaS, CAC optimisation, ABM, RevOps, Demand Generation”
